December has crept up and it’s the holiday season and along with it holiday movies and video games!
The Movie
Charles Dicken’s book A Christmas Carol has been shown in theatres around the world and has now gotten to the big screen in 3D. Robert Zemeckis and a great cast including Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge, Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come.
Just like the book, Ebenezer Scrooge is the grumpy old man of the town. He is very frugal and while others are rejoicing with holiday cheer, he is miserable. One night he is visited by Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. The visit opens his eyes to and to face the truth. He realizes that he has to change or else he will end up like his old friend.
Overall I enjoyed the movie. Especially since it was in 3D, I felt like a little kid. The movie says that it is PG but I don’t think it is really for kids under the age of 6 or 7. When the ghosts start showing up in the movie, since it is in 3D, they jump out. The graphics are very good and you really feel like a ghost is right in front of you. If I were a little kid I would get very scared. When Christmas Yet to come visits, it get very dark just like the book. Once again during those scenes I felt as though it was too graphic for the younger kids. I wouldn’t say that it is PG 13 but not for the very young ones. Other than that I believe Rober Zemeckis captured Dicken’s book very well.
I would recommend people to watch the movie while it’s still out. I always liked 3D movies.
The Video Game for Nintendo DS
Now, not only can you read A Christmas Carolbut you can watch it in the theatre, the movie theatre, and play on the DS. The game takes you through the entire story. You guide Scrooge with the help of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. There are several chapters with each ghost. Each chapter has about 3 to 4 tasks you have to complete in order to go to the next one. You can have up to 4 players on the game. There are music playing games, puzzles and cooking games too. The came is rated E for everyone. I suggest that anyone 8 years old or older will be able to play the game.
Personally this was not one of my favorite games. Within each chapter I felt as though it was moving too slowly. To play the game I would sit down for a couple of minutes. For me, I would have preferred more games rather than puzzles in the game. Overall I completed the entire game. My favorite was the cooking games.
