As I have mentioned before I love, love, love Disney. I grew up on Disney’s second golden age with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin. I love the magic of Disney storytelling but the last couple Disney (not Pixar) movies have been a disappointment. Then I saw a sneak peak of The Princess and the Frog at Blogalicious and I got really excited but as I am now 28, I was worried the Disney magic had faded as time went on and I grew up.
I am so happy to say The Princess and the Frog proves Disney has not lost their touch. It was every bit as magical as I hoped.
They went back to hand drawn animation, memorable songs and terrific storytelling to bring us the story of The Princess and the Frog. The story of Tiana (Anika Noni Rose from Dream girls) and her frog prince (Bruno Campos) and the kiss that leads them on adventure filled with music, fireflies, evil shadows, voodoo and a trumpet playing alligator.
All around Disney did a fanatic job with the beautiful animation, the songs, lovable characters and extraordinary voice talents like John Goodman, Keith David, Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard and so many more.
The message behind the storytelling was also fantastic.
Tiana knows that to fulfill her dreams she cannot only wish upon a star, she must work hard to make her dream a reality. Yay! Talk about your modern day heroine.
The only slight negative (again slight) was the villain Dr. Facilier was not the best Disney villain and kids may be confused by the Voodoo images. Is it magic? Is it a religion? Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis) practices Voodoo but she is not bad.
Other than that a total fantastic movie. Go see this movie!
