The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard was your typical August movie.
All the summer blockbusters have made their debuts and hopefully made some money. Now Paramount cleans out their closets to entertain the masses for one more month of summer and out comes, The Goods a90minute mediocre comedy about a small family car dealership run by James Brolin on the verge of bankruptcy who in a last ditch effort to stay in business calls Don Ready (Jeremy Piven) and his team of sex crazed but talented car selling experts, (Ving Rhames, David Koechner and Kathryn Hahn).
Don Ready is what every guy wishes they could be during their early 20s. A total seller, the life of the party who can get any girl and drinks and parties his life away.
The problem is Ready is not 20 something. He is 40ish with no family or friends minus his team and he was responsible for the death of his best friend in a tragic skydiving accident. He questions his lifestyle and his future especially when he meets Jordana Spiro, Brolin’s cute engaged daughter.
Will Farrell makes a cameo as the best friend but even Farrell, who I love, cannot save this movie.
I won’t lie, I definitely giggled and laughed out loud at a couple of moments like when Hahn sells a car to a construction foreman and other bits but the plot and jokes fell short and were not entertaining even for only 90 minutes. Most of the jokes are immature and all about sex which can be funny like The Hangover but this was not. Alan Thick and Ed Helms also have parts in the film but they do not add anything to the movie experience.
In general the movie was just very blah. It hoped to catch some of The Anchorman magic by having Farrell, Hahn and Koechner but no such luck.
So save your money Dancing Hotdogs readers and wait for this to come out on Red box and only spend $1 if you really want to see it.
