Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Fun With Dick and Jane are just some of the movies Jim Carrey, one of the most successful comedic actors, has on his resume. Now Yes Man can be added to the long list.
I have always enjoyed the crazy unique comedy showcased in Ace Ventura. That was one of the first Jim Carrey movies that I watched. Still to this day, when that movie is on TV, I watch it. There are so many scenes that make me laugh to the point that I cry. Not many appreciate his style of comedy. Yes Man is a MATURED crazy unique comedy by Jim Carrey. I say matured because it’s not as crazy as Ace Ventura but still hysterical.
Yes Man stars Jim Carrey as Carl Allen, a loan officer. He is one of the many in the world who says no to everything. In the beginning you feel bad for Carl for being dumped by his girlfriend but it was three years ago yet he still isn’t over it. He lives his life without living it. Even his friends try to get him out but he says no. No to everything. Until one day an old friend of his, Nick (Michael Higgins) gets him to go to a self-help seminar. This is where Carl learns that one word ‘yes’ can change everything.
Carl starts to live finally. He takes guitar lessons, learns how to fly a plane, learns another language, and starts giving out loans at his job. Eventually he meets a potential romance, Allison (Zooey Deschanel). Carl says yes to any opportunity that comes his way. This is where Jim Carrey is able to demonstrate his comedic skills. Eventually after living life to the fullest by saying yes to everything it comes back to Carl on a bad note.
On one of the adventurous activities, Carl and Allison decided to hop on the first plane leaving the city. The officials stop them. Since Carl had done too many suspecting ‘terrorist’ activities, he is interrogated.
In the end, it wasn’t about just saying yes but instead living your life. To live your life there are certain limits but that doesn’t mean you have to say no to every opportunity. You never know what may happen.
If you haven’t seen it…..YOU SHOULD!!!
P.S. Readers, Rosa wrote this review a while ago. Life got in the way of me posting. Yes Man may still be playing in some theaters. -D
