Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Movie Review

By Rosa

Alvin (voice by Justin Long), Simon (voice by Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) are back and more adorable than ever!  While ending their tour in France, Dave Seville (Jason Lee) gets injured and informs the boys that they are enrolled at the high school back home so they can have a normal life.  Since Dave is injured they are going to be taken care of by his Aunt Jackie (Kathryn Joosten).  Once the boys get back home, Aunt Jackie gets injured too!  Now the boys are to be taken care of by the irresponsible cousin Toby (Zachary Levi).  The boys start school and Alvin becomes the cool jock while Simon and Theodore are the left out.  The boys are asked to save the schools music program by entering in a music competition to win the $25,000 prize.

While all of this is going on, The Chippettes, Brittany (voice by Christina Applegate), Jeanette (voice by Anna Faris), and Eleanor (Amy Poehler), seek help from Ian (David Cross), the record dealer who helped The Chipmunks get famous.  Ian is living in the basement of Jet records and scams his way to get the girls to think he is still very powerful.  Tricked by Ian, the girls enter the same contest to battle against the Chipmunks.  Sparks fly when the two groups meet, but are faced with certain obstacles in order to be together.

As a chipmunk fan I was very happy the Squeakquel was coming out featuring the Chippettes.  Just like the cartoon, they are cute and sassy.  I liked the movie and would recommend anyone to go.  It’s a simple comedy that anyone would be able to understand and enjoy.  The kids would love it because the Chipmunks and Chippettes are comical as well as Toby, who still has a crush on a girl from high school.  The songs sung by both groups are catchy.  At the end the boys and the girls both learn lessons to help them in the future.

Definitely go see the movie; it’s worth the price of the movies these days.  You will come out laughing and in a good mood and maybe even singing ‘Single Ladies’.
